The Opportunity
An established engineering consultancy is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer with 2–6 years of relevant experience to join its growing multidisciplinary team.
This role offers the opportunity to work on complex infrastructure and development projects, delivering innovative geotechnical design solutions across roads, rail, bridges, energy, flood defence and climate-resilient infrastructure.
Working alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists, you will have the opportunity to develop your expertise while contributing to projects from investigation and risk assessment through to detailed design and construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify preliminary geotechnical risks and undertake options analysis.
- Specify and support ground investigation programmes to address project risks.
- Provide specialist geotechnical input to multidisciplinary design teams.
- Analyse ground conditions and develop parameters for shallow and deep foundation design.
- Support the design of slopes, retaining structures, earthworks and foundations.
- Contribute to ground improvement solutions for soft ground and peat.
- Assess construction and earthworks materials for potential reuse.
- Undertake pavement foundation design in accordance with relevant standards.
- Support geotechnical aspects of roads, railways, greenways, bridges and energy infrastructure.
- Attend and supervise ground investigations, earthworks and foundation works on site.
- Prepare technical reports, assessments and design documentation.
- Work collaboratively with transportation, environmental and other engineering teams.
- Assist with project management, risk management and technical delivery.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Level 8 degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline.
- 2–6 years of relevant geotechnical experience.
- Knowledge of construction techniques for piling and retaining walls.
- Understanding of soft ground, stability and soil reinforcement techniques.
- Experience with earthworks, soil improvement or deep foundation design.
- Experience supporting geotechnical investigation contracts.
- Strong project management, risk assessment and design skills.
- Good report writing and technical communication abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and CAD/BIM applications.
- Ability to work effectively within a busy multidisciplinary environment.
- Flexibility and a proactive approach.
- Fluent or highly proficient spoken and written English.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
- Membership of a recognised professional engineering or geotechnical body.
- Knowledge of earthworks, aggregates and pavement design.
- Experience with Irish or UK ground conditions and major infrastructure projects.
- Construction experience involving earthworks, soil improvement or deep foundations.
- Experience in flood protection or marine environments.
- Knowledge of contaminated land and ground remediation.
- Full driving licence.
