About the Role
A leading environmental and ecology consultancy is seeking an experienced Ecological / Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW / EnvCoW) to join its growing Ecology team in Galway.
The role will support projects across renewable energy, wind, remediation and infrastructure, providing ecological and environmental oversight throughout construction and operational phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Review NIS, EcIA, CEMP, biodiversity and habitat management plans.
- Undertake pre-commencement, construction and post-operation ecological surveys.
- Complete habitat, flora, fauna and invasive species surveys.
- Carry out environmental sampling, including water quality monitoring.
- Provide ecological and environmental supervision on construction sites.
- Monitor compliance with planning conditions and environmental requirements.
- Ensure agreed mitigation measures are implemented effectively.
- Record site observations, recommendations and environmental data.
- Prepare detailed monitoring, audit and technical reports.
- Create maps and manage spatial data using QGIS.
- Deliver environmental and ecological toolbox talks to site teams.
- Liaise with planning authorities, heritage officers, NPWS and Inland Fisheries Ireland.
- Identify ecological issues proactively and support practical solutions.
- Manage assigned projects from inception through to completion.
- Work closely with ecology, ornithology, environmental and planning specialists.
About You
- Third-level qualification in Ecology, Environmental Science, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years’ post-graduate experience or strong construction-stage project experience.
- Experience in ecological or environmental site supervision is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of construction processes and environmental responsibilities.
- Understanding of ecology and relevant EIAR-related environmental disciplines.
- Experience with planning condition compliance and mitigation measures.
- QGIS experience would be advantageous.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Strong record-keeping and attention to detail.
- Proactive approach to identifying and resolving environmental issues.
- Comfortable working outdoors and engaging with construction site teams.
- Full driving licence desirable.
