About the Role
A leading environmental and engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Principal EIA Consultant – Energy to join its Environment team.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead Environmental Impact Assessment and consenting work for major energy and infrastructure projects across Ireland, including renewable generation, grid infrastructure, energy storage, interconnection and emerging low-carbon technologies.
You will provide technical leadership, coordinate multidisciplinary teams and act as a trusted advisor to clients, regulators and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multidisciplinary environmental teams delivering complex EIARs and consenting projects.
- Coordinate specialist consultants and manage environmental workstreams.
- Develop project delivery plans and ensure objectives, programmes and budgets are achieved.
- Identify, manage and mitigate project risks.
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, planning requirements and governance processes.
- Lead client, regulator and stakeholder engagement throughout development consent processes.
- Provide strategic environmental advice and support project decision-making.
- Promote innovation and improve EIA processes, tools and delivery methods.
- Provide technical assurance and maintain high-quality project outputs.
- Mentor and develop junior and senior colleagues.
- Support business development, tenders and client relationship management.
- Contribute to the continued growth and development of the EIA and Energy team.
About You
- Strong professional experience in Environmental Impact Assessment and environmental consultancy.
- Proven ability to lead complex EIAR and consenting workstreams.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and external specialists.
- Strong understanding of Irish environmental legislation and planning processes.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing scope, programme, budget, quality and risk.
- Strong report-writing and presentation abilities.
- Experience mentoring colleagues and improving technical processes.
- Collaborative, organised and confident working in a changing environment.
Desirable Experience
Experience in energy-sector projects such as renewable generation, electricity transmission, substations, grid reinforcement, energy storage, interconnectors or low-carbon technologies is advantageous.
Knowledge of Strategic Infrastructure Development, An Coimisiún Pleanála, EIA scoping, public consultation, Appropriate Assessment and Natura Impact Statements would also be beneficial.
