About the Role
A leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer – Transportation to join its growing Transportation team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Engineer with strong experience in the planning and design of transport infrastructure projects. You will take a leading role in the delivery of road, rail, public transport and active travel schemes across Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, design and delivery of transportation projects.
- Manage multidisciplinary design teams and project resources.
- Work across feasibility, preliminary and detailed design stages.
- Provide input into statutory processes, including EIAR and CPO requirements.
- Prepare contract documents and support procurement processes.
- Assist with contract administration and construction supervision.
- Support commercial management and project delivery.
- Ensure designs meet relevant standards and provide practical, buildable and cost-effective solutions.
- Develop strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
- Prepare and lead tender proposals and contribute to winning new commissions.
- Coordinate with internal teams, contractors and external consultants.
- Take responsibility for project quality, programme and technical delivery.
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering (Level 8 or 9) or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status.
- Relevant consultancy experience within transportation engineering.
- Strong experience in the planning and design of transport infrastructure.
- Experience delivering projects in Ireland is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of road, rail, public transport or active travel schemes.
- Experience across feasibility, preliminary and detailed design.
- Understanding of statutory approvals, procurement and contract processes.
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and projects.
- Strong commercial awareness and project management skills.
- Experience preparing tender proposals and leading bids.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Self-motivated, flexible and comfortable working independently or within a team.
