Principal Engineer – Energy

About the Role
A leading multidisciplinary consultancy is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to join its Energy team. This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Civil Engineer with 12+ years’ postgraduate experience to take a senior role across a diverse portfolio of renewable energy and infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will contribute to project management, environmental assessments and preliminary civil design while supporting the continued growth of the wider Energy and Planning team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review high-quality technical reports and project documentation.
- Plan, coordinate and oversee design activities across project teams.
- Support the delivery of renewable energy and infrastructure projects.
- Manage relationships with clients, external stakeholders and subcontractors.
- Contribute to tenders, fee proposals and business development activities.
- Provide technical leadership, line management and mentoring to team members.
- Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Ensure compliance with quality management systems, company procedures and Health & Safety requirements.
- Support project planning, delivery and technical decision-making.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of energy services.
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 12 years’ postgraduate experience.
- Chartered Engineer status.
- Strong experience in engineering consultancy and project delivery.
- Excellent communication, organisational and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to engage effectively with clients, stakeholders and subcontractors.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Adaptable, collaborative and commercially aware.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and client meetings.
Desirable Experience
Experience in project managing preliminary civil design for renewable energy projects would be advantageous but is not essential.
Experience across wind, solar PV, battery storage, biomass, hydro, energy-from-waste or related energy infrastructure would also be beneficial.
