Senior Engineer / Team Lead – Water & Utilities
The Opportunity
An established engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer / Team Lead to join its growing Water & Utilities team in Galway. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior civil or environmental engineer to take a leading role in the design and delivery of major water, wastewater and utility infrastructure projects.
You will provide technical leadership across a varied portfolio while supporting the development of a high-performing engineering team. The role offers significant responsibility, client exposure and opportunities for continued career progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of water, wastewater, drainage and utility infrastructure projects.
- Act as technical lead on Design-Build and traditional contract projects.
- Manage technical outputs, resources and project programmes to ensure successful delivery.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and work closely with clients, contractors and key stakeholders.
- Review engineering designs, drawings, calculations, specifications and technical reports.
- Liaise with Uisce Éireann, local authorities and project partners.
- Mentor and support Graduate and Project Engineers.
- Provide construction support, undertake site visits and participate in design reviews and inspections.
- Support bids, business development and client relationship management.
- Ensure compliance with QA/QC, Health & Safety, BCAR and relevant engineering standards.
Requirements
- Level 8 Honours Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
- Typically 8+ years’ relevant experience in water, wastewater, utilities or civil infrastructure.
- Chartered Engineer status or actively progressing towards chartership with Engineers Ireland.
- Strong experience delivering Design-Build projects and leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with Uisce Éireann and local authority standards and approvals.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Knowledge of hydraulic modelling, GIS and water/drainage design software.
- Understanding of Irish design standards, Eurocodes and relevant legislation.
- BIM and digital engineering experience would be advantageous.
Strong leadership, communication, analytical and stakeholder-management skills are essential.
